Welcome to The Bull’s Eye
Welcome to The Bull’s Eye
Hi, I’m Eirik Bull. I'm a film critic, a Golden Globes voter (80th to 83th so far), and after years of analyzing stories, I’m gradually exploring the creative side of the film and tv industry again, where it all started.
My story started like many others: with the original Star Wars on VHS. While other kids wanted to be firefighters, I wanted to build worlds. That passion led me into a career as a film journalist, but after a year of profound personal changes, I realized it was time to close the circle.
I did a lot of soul searching to find the balance between my work as a media journalist and critic—the foundation on which this Substack was built—and my love for the moving picture. And after a short stint back at film school in 2025, I quickly realized that I should take a more unique apprach instead.
Now, I’ve started training serious training as a colorist, and I aim to combine my love for this last step in the filmmaking process with my media journalism. I won’t know if there is balance in this sort of chemistry, and where I will end up, but it’s an exciting journey to be sure.
What You'll Find Here
This is where my two worlds collide: the analytical eye of a critic and the hands-on passion of a filmmaker-in-training. Expect:
Analysis That Goes Deeper: My reviews and articles go beyond the surface. We'll explore filmmaker inspirations, hidden themes, and the storytelling choices that make a film tick—all delivered with a sharp, insightful, and often humorous perspective.
Conversations with Creators: Through the odd interview, we'll go behind the scenes with the actors, directors, and writers who shape the stories we love.
A Life in Color: I also aim to write about color from the colorists perspective, especially in film and tv reviews. And when I get more experienced, I aim to interview the colorists in the film and tv industry I admire.
Whether you're a casual fan or a fellow obsessive, my hope is that The Bull’s Eye will inspire you, challenge you, or simply deepen your love for great storytelling.
